Data sovereignty

Data sovereignty is the principle that data is subject to the laws of the jurisdiction that controls it. It is stronger than data residency (where data physically sits): EU data hosted by a US-owned provider can be resident in Frankfurt yet still fall under US law (e.g. the CLOUD Act). Running inference on your own hardware sidesteps the question entirely.
