CLOUD Act
The US CLOUD Act (2018) lets US authorities compel US-owned providers to produce data under their control regardless of where it is physically stored. This is why residency in Frankfurt does not give you sovereignty if the provider is US-owned, and why self-hosting, with no provider in the loop, sidesteps it.
